That year in 1981, Pat O'Hara and his father acquired the company from John Bollag, a Swiss inventor, after many years of serving as his manufacturing partner.
The O'Haras operated the company in New Jersey until its acquisition by Mattingly Low Vision, Inc. in 2015. Mattingly relocated BigEye’s operations to El Paso, Texas and continues the American-made tradition by hand-assembling each lamp in-house. Many of the contents of every lamp are also American-made, along with corresponding molds and dyes.
For over 40 years BigEye Lamps have brightened over 70,000 customers’ lives with reliable illumination for reading, writing, crafting, sewing, and more. BigEye Lamps are indispensable for individuals with or without low vision, providing light and magnification right where it is needed. Because we assemble in-house, we maintain the quality and consistency of every final product—giving customers durable lamps that last a lifetime.
